Newborn Photography – the newborn curl

There is just something simply lovely about a newborn. Oh yes, baby smell and tiny fingers are good but its the newborn curl that makes my heart skip a beat. In your whole life, you only do the “newborn curl” for the first 2 weeks of life. Most newborns get cell phone shots or point and shoots while they are all wrapped up in blankets. But that special thing they do can only be seen naked and usually sleeping. Up until 2 weeks, they still can maintain the fetal position because joints and fat haven’t developed enough to hinder the tuck. The cute positions and posing is pure magic at this stage.
This baby is particularly special because his momma Leah is a dear friend and to my delight she turned Nigel over to me while I had her relax in the new backyard on a lounge chair with a magazine. She got some much needed rest while listening to the birds chirp and enjoying the California sun. Although I think everyone should have newborn photos within the first 2 weeks, perhaps the selling point is I take photos plus momma gets to rest in resort style! That’s the best 2fer a new mother could ask for!icon smile Newborn Photography the newborn curl
These photographs were taken at our studio in Burbank with lots of wonderful natural light! Even though I know how to execute studio lighting, I still love the look of natural light, especially for newborns. A wide open fstop makes their skin so creamy, beautiful and smooth.

Dog Photography – Bulldog Poses for Portrait

Charlie, the bulldog, is friendly and deceivingly strong. He brushed up against me to let me know it was my turn to pet him and he almost knocked me over! He is all muscle – wish I could just eat and catch a ball to be this svelte with solid muscle to my core.

Marc and I were photographing this Beverly Hills condo and while Marc was busy grabbing the last few architectural photos, I grabbed the only portrait lens I had on me, to sneak a few of this charming, yet studly dog. Usually I would use my 85mm 1.4 to shoot such a calm dog and give me lots of yummy light inside the house.  But alas, all I had on me was 24-70mm f/2.8.  Thank you Nikon for your ISO loveliness and thank you Lightoom for your new noise reduction.  It’s a symphony with only two instruments.

Oh, and doesn’t the decor just speak my name?  Ahhh yes, I hear it too…..(Tiffany, Tiffany….. Tiffany – you should definitely live in this chic Beverly Hills condo).

Maternity Photos – Beverly Hills

Love these two. They are so fun to be around and as you can see Alexia’s smile is radiant. One of my favorite things is photographing confident and happy people! Alexia just has that great personality that lites up in front of a camera and I enjoyed every minute photographing her!

We went up to Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills and ended at our studio in Burbank. You might remember we photographed a wedding at Greystone and love the wonderful architecture and lovely gardens.

I love maternity photos with the couple together. You get to see the love and happiness they both share during this special time and of course the glow of a mother-to-be makes for some beautiful photographs. This is Alexia and Eric’s first baby and both Marc and I are looking forward to future game nights and backyard BBQ’s with these two – soon to be three.

maternity los angeles - Alexia and Eric seems like they are so comfortable with each other and it shows right through the photo. Especially in the 4th photo it seems like they’re melting into each other. Their first baby is going to be born in a loving family. I love the last photo with the color coordination of pink and black.

Eric - Thanks again Tiffany and Marc….we LOVE the pics!

Studio Lighting for a Model

Just because I usually shoot natural light, doesn’t mean we don’t know how to rock the technical lighting. Some of these are in our new studio and while I did sneak in a few natural light moves in my new favorite field, you can see that this shoot was more about the dramatic lighting. The last ones were taken at night at our studio as well. Night photography is a first for us. Fun to shoot in a totally dark environment and really mold the light to do what we want without any ambient light filling the shadows. Most of these were done with 2-3 Nikon SB 800′s. Don’t need powerful strobes when there is no ambient light to overpower the flashes. The lighting is cool but everything looks better with a hot model!

Wedding Photography – Brentwood

It was the most perfect day for a backyard wedding at an absolutely breathtaking estate home in Brentwood. The lovely Amy and Enrique proclaimed their vows just as the sun was setting, creating the perfect mood for celebration. Soon after the ceremony, the guests enjoyed cocktails and conversation with friends young and old while we photographed the new bride and groom. Amy was stunning and everything was picture perfect down to the last detail. The reception began just at twilight and opened up with Amy and Enrique’s first dance. The food was totally amazing thanks to Camille’s Kitchen. The dance floor was a party all night long, and everyone clearly had a great time celebrating this beautiful couple. Thank you Amy and Enrique for allowing us to capture your wedding day.

Family Photography – Twins!

You might recognize these twins from a previous shoot when they were about 2 years old.  My how time flies! Super fun little personalities, these guys were so fun to shoot I actually had a side ache from laughing so hard. One of my favorite things is some of my new props. You can see my new pink couch that we hauled around since I just had to put it out in a field (thanks dear). And the mini metal umbrella that took multiple trips to the Goodwill to secure and then a hacksaw to alter it (again, thanks dear) – at the time I envisioned using it with a young girl wearing a tutu, and when I found out we would be photographing these two, I was ready to make a little magic with my cool hot pink bow on a headband, tutu’s, magical umbrella’s, a pink couch and then of course the main ingredient – twins! Love, Love, Love.
